We heard a guy sing and play guitar this weekend.
He played guitar very well and had a good singing voice.
It was just him, by his lonesome up on that stage.
So why, in the name of all that is holy (or not), would his penultimate song be: If You’re Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band).
This song pretty much requires you to have a fiddle player (not to mention a band).
He had neither.
Although, I will grant you, he was also not in Texas.
And his finale was, I kid you not – The Devil Went Down to Georgia.
A song that absolutely requires a fiddle player, which I repeat, he did not have.
Dude. Why?

Teri – loved the photo. Just saw news about horrendous weather sweeping through Michigan & hope that you’re not int THAT part of Michigan & drowning in rain.
Your puzzlement re:fiddlers reminds me of my days as an agent, booking bands & small
combos in clubs & lounges. People would send us demo tapes & we’d ask the good ones in
to the office for a live audition. We got some people who had the ability , but really
lousy instincts when it came to picking what hits to cover. EVERY generation has its head-
scratchers.
Hope you’re staying dry — and that the new house has a REALLY good roof.
