Our fat brown tabby Berta has a new favorite.

Coffee.

Is it okay for cats to drink coffee?  Guess, I should look into that.  I’ll be right back …

The short answer is no, cats can’t safely drink coffee. In fact, if a cat drinks coffee or ingests coffee beans or grounds, it can lead to very serious health problems.

Well, there you go.  Guess, this will be the end of Berta’s new favorite.

The good news is that this is a totally new thing.  Yesterday, because we only had cold coffee (another post) I had iced coffee and it had cream in it instead of milk – not the best combo, as the cream pretty much turns into butter on your ice cubes.  But Berta LOVED it.  Mostly I just put the buttery-goodness on my finger and let her lick it off.  Today, however, she decided to help herself to the buttery goodness that was on top of my hot coffee – right from the cup. 

Sorry Burps – no more coffee for you. 

I’ll just give her a spoonful of cream instead. 

Glad I decided to do this blog – or I would have let her lap at my coffee in ignorance.
