THIS FAT OLD LADY’S THEATER TUESDAY – (LACK OF) CULTURE SHOCK

I’m in my late 60s.

That means roles that I could expect to play are getting fewer and farther between.

I’m moving back to the Tri-Cities (Bay City, Saginaw and Midland) area of Michigan.

I’m moving from an area that is abundant in theatrical opportunity and where I am a known quantity (and quality).

As far as I can tell, the Tri-Cities now boasts two adult theatrical groups – The Bay City Players and Pit & Balcony.

I don’t know why Midland (home of Dow Chemical), the richest of the three communities does not have any adult theatrical group of its own.  (WTF Midland?)

I foresee slim pickings ahead.

What’s a fat old lady to do?

Are there shower-safe karaoke machines?

  1. How about starting your own – a theatre company (musicals, of course!) comprised of semi-pro or retired
pro seniors? Think of the Palm Springs Follies – something on that order. Bet you’d be a terrific administrator
for a company like that, and you KNOW how people out there in the heartland are gaga for folks who’ve
been in Hollywood. I can see it now: “Forbidden Michigan”

Just a thought from one fat old lady to another.
