One of the biggest problem fat people have to contend with is dealing with healthcare and healthcare professionals.
The amount of anti-fat bias among medical professionals is well documented; and it has a direct impact on the health of fat people.
Also of concern is medical equipment that cannot accommodate fat bodies and things like fat-friendly seating make trips to the doctor not only unwelcoming, but physically uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous.
So, if you haven’t already heard, Ragen Chastain has started a newsletter dealing with fat people health and healthcare.
If you aren’t familiar with Ragen Chastain, you should be. She is a long time fat activist, blogger (DancesWithFat), professional speaker and writer, trained researcher, co-author of the HAES (Health at Every Size) Health Sheets, multi-certified health and fitness professional and queer, fat, woman.
Subscribing to the newsletter Weight and Healthcare is free (you can opt to pay for the subscription to help Ragen continue with her important work, and obtain certain paid-subscriber perks).
I hope you will go to weightandhealthcare.substack and check out the newsletter and if you find it of interest, that you will decide to subscribe; because this is an important topic and there is a lot to be said – I can’t say it all.
As it is Fat Friday, seems to be Fat Friday (on Sunday).
