Ricardo Mesa (1931-2000) was originally from Chile.
He was a communist militant and active leader of university reform and was exiled to Spain in 1974.
With that kind of background, I have to wonder at the creative source for his “Las Gordas” (the fat ladies) series in porcelain bisque. I would love to know, but there is very little online about this artist.
These little ladies are a delight.
Every bit of them is round. Every face is smiling and content with life as a fat lady.
You just want to hold them and revel in their silky smoothness.
There is not a hard edge to be found.
And each one looks (to me) to have been crafted with sheer delight and love.
Esta gorda vieja senora diga gracias.
