Lucky supermarket almost had a fat old lady down in the dairy department today.
Holy crap.
For the first time, I had an attack with low blood sugar.
Not fun.
I absolutely thought I was going to black out. My hands were red and shaking – a lot. I was in a cold sweat.
And I was soooooo scared.
I tried bending over my grocery cart – didn’t help.
I tried leaning up against a refrigerated section – didn’t help.
So I went to the fruit juices – which thankfully were right there – and got me a small Simply Raspberry Lemonade – and drank it.
It took maybe 10 minutes or so, but I was okay.
Holy fucking shit.
I have had diabetes for a couple of years and have had low blood sugar (in the 60s and 70s) with no problems. In fact, I pretty much have no way of telling if my blood sugar is high or low, because I’ve never had (and still don’t have) the usual symptoms. I have been very complacent about this. Not so much now – not that I’m going to go screaming into the night or run around like the proverbial chicken sans head.
I’m going to stash a couple glucose tablets in my purse; and I will not go from breakfast until late afternoon without eating anything (and then go on a big grocery shopping run).
I would like to think I’m smarter than this, but the evidence tends to indicate otherwise.
D’oh.
I’m grateful you were OK finally.
