THIS FAT OLD LADY GETS HER DOSE OF IRONY

oprah

Many people love Oprah Winfrey.

I respect and admire the woman; but I don’t love her.  I don’t love her because Oprah Winfrey does not love herself.

Oprah has spent a lifetime battling her own body.  She is the queen of weight recycling, and body (self) hatred.

Being the boss of her own underpants, that is fine.  She can get on with her bad self, and do what she wants/needs to do with her own body.

But it makes me sad.

Here is the beautiful smart woman who just cannot grasp the well-proven scientific concept that diets do not work.  This has been proven to such an extent that even the medical community is starting to admit this to themselves.

And it makes me even sadder that a lot of people buy into her being-fat-is-horrible mindset simply because she is Oprah.

And now, bless her, Oprah has bought a 10% interest in … wait for it ….

Weight Watchers.

Irony:  …. a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.

Outside of the fact that Weight Watchers does not work, I do believe that Weight Watchers can provide some valid nutritional information to its members and it does try to encourage getting some movement into your life.

Information is good.

Making your focus weight loss is not.

Studies are showing with a non-weight focus, people are more likely to continue with healthy behaviors.

I just find it a bit mind-boggling that the poster child for diets not working is now going to be the poster child for the biggest diet company ever.

“From even the greatest of horrors irony is seldom absent.”  – H.P. Lovecraft
