THIS FAT OLD LADY GETS A LITTLE ZESTY

I know y’all are British Bake-Off style bakers and do your own zesting of citrus fruit.

I’m an old (very old) school gal, who remembers buying zest in the spice section of the local grocery store.

When did they stop selling that shit? I just can’t face buying a lemon, orange or lime just to get some scrapings from the peel (and then throwing away the perfectly good fruit that I have no other use for). Also, it feels like I’m using a callous remover on an innocent piece of fruit. So I just skip that ingredient in my recipes; but that makes me feel like I’m not getting the recipe “right”.

Well, guess what? You can buy lemon, lime and/or orange zest through Amazon. So I did.

I’ll have three little bottles in my spice drawer waiting for the day I am actually baking and the recipe calls for “zest”.

So all you lazy bakers like me, I’ve got you covered. Now you know.

Of course, this may all be moot because I haven’t done any serious cooking in quite awhile; but like every good Scout, I am prepared!

  1. If that stuff is really additive-free, doesn’t that mean there aren’t any preservatives? Maybe it’s time to start baking again…or, wait & see what a few years in your spice drawer does for a jar of zest. Seriously – how long is the stuff supposed to last?
