Our house used to be buried in books. Like hoarders for books. It’s better now, although there are still a whole lot of books around. Many, though, have (hopefully) found homes at the library or through donations to Good Will, because now I mostly use my Kindle.
It pains me though when I see how costly a lot of e-books are.
You don’t have to pay for printing them – it’s a file.
I do not begrudge payment to the writer, and I understand there is some distribution costs, but still, I’d like to think e-books would be cheaper than most paperbacks.
So how do I afford to keep my Kindle loaded?
First there is Gutenberg.org where you can get all kinds of free e-books. Mostly in the public domain (so you get lots of classics).
Second, is BookBub.com – I urge you to give them a try.
You sign up, let them know what kind of device you are using for reading, and every day (yes, every fucking day), they will send you a list of e-books that range in price from $2.99 to FREE!!!
FREE, as you probably realize, is an excellent price. And many of the choices are $0.99. Which is pretty fucking good too.
So if you like books, but don’t want to haul them around – head over to BookBub.com and give it a try. What’s it going to hurt?
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do; and happy reading.
