WTF Wednesday came on Tuesday this week.
Got the dishwasher all loaded. Close it up. Push the buttons. Walk away.
Realize, a bit later, I’m not hearing dishwashing sounds.
WTF?
WTF is our Bosch dishwasher has an E24 Error Code.
The E24 Error Code means your dishwasher is not draining.
Well, fuck.
The good news is, apparently the Bosch dishwasher knows enough that if it senses your dishwasher is not draining, it should stop doing anything that requires water to be pumped into your dishwasher.
So, no flooding involved.
Last time this happened, I was able to scrub the mesh on the bottom of the dishwasher, pour in some hot water and everything went back to working. (We have really hard water, plus that was when I tried Gain Dishwashing Detergent which basically turned into sludge in our dishwasher.)
No joy this time.
Okay, I go on Yelp and I find a repair place that has a bunch of good (and recent) reviews, and set up an appointment for today (Wednesday).
Now, here’s the thing about dishwasher repair – you don’t know the dishwasher is broken until you try to run it.
And you don’t try to run the dishwasher unless and until the dishwasher is FULL.
Fuckity-fuck.
So, I had to wash (and dry) an entire dishwasher’s worth of dishes the old fashioned way.
I don’t have an issue with washing and drying dishes by hand. Whenever we go to a timeshare, I do the dishes by hand rather than use the dishwasher.
However, in those cases – I’m doing one meal’s worth of dishes. Not 3-4 days worth of dishes.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
So I was up to my elbows in hot soapy water for quite a while last night.
The good news is the dishwasher repairman got here on time, looked at it, knew exactly what to do and was out of here in less than a half hour (and that includes the time to show me exactly what the problem was and how to fix it myself).
We were all masked up, and he wore gloves the entire time; and touched only the dishwasher.
My initial thought to scrub the mesh was a good one. He pulled that part out of the machine for me to clean. (Do you have any idea how much gunk can build up in your dishwasher, out of sight over years of use? GACK) He instructed me to, at least once a month, pour a cup of vinegar into my dishwasher and run it empty (because of our hard water); and he showed me the fucking itty bitty place that a piece of food had clogged up causing the whole problem to begin with – and how to open it and clean it out.
I think he more than earned his $65.
I highly recommend SmartFix Appliance Repair!
As far as I am concerned, they are absolute appliance repair rock stars!
Now excuse me while I go scrub years of built up soap (remember when I used Gain detergent and it turned to sludge? Found all that fucking sludge!) on the underside of the bottom mesh and the drain for the dishwasher.
I lead such a glamorous life!
