You know how when a business gets such a bad reputation they change their name – thinking nobody will notice they are still the same awful company, just with a new name?

Well, apparently somebody thinks that will work for weight loss surgery too.

Imagine my surprise when reading about some fat science that weight loss surgery was not referred to as weight loss surgery – you know the surgery that fucks with a complicated bodily system that is working perfectly well?  The surgery that leaves you with long term negative health impacts, and which often leads to repeat surgery, malabsorption issues and/or might even kill you?

Oh, and the surgery that everyone assures you is not for cosmetic reasons?  That (supposedly) has nothing to do with how you look and has nothing to do with pressure from a society that is fatphobic?

Yeah, that one.

Imagine my surprise to see weight loss surgery being referred to as “metabolic surgery”.

What a large and steaming pile of total shit.

Because, you know, the surgery is about your “health” – not about weight loss.

Uh-huh.

Even though research has shown that many fat people can improve their health without weight loss.

So if your healthcare provider decides to offer you this “new” surgery, please don’t be fooled.

It’s just the same old shit put in a new bag.

Yup.  They can keep polishing that turd all they want, but in the end, they’ll still just have a shiny turd.
