My mother’s motto was
You can write your name in the dust, just don’t put the date.
I am my mother’s child.
Recently I undertook the Herculean task of cleaning my personal Augean Stable – the area under my computer stand.
We won’t discuss when was the last time I cleaned under there, besides my memory is not that good.
I spend a good part of my waking life at my computer, and much of the detritus of my life accumulates around that area.
It is a land of dust bunnies from hell and cords and cables that long to grab my ankles and pull me under (like I’d fit).
But I got a wild hair and I cleaned it all out.
I threw out a bunch of crap, I rearranged cords and cables, I swept, and swept, and swept (squatter dust bunnies can be very tenacious) and it is now very nice.
And our brown tabby, Leo, is under the impression that I did this for his sole convenience.
Your mother’s motto reminds me that Quentin Crisp quote, “the dust doesn’t seem to get any worse after about 4 years.”
