That is, indeed, the question.
Right now, I am up to my tits in rehearsals for A New Brain.
(This show is so wonderful and the music is so fucking difficult – for the singers – not for the audience – y’all get to just sit back and enjoy!)
This weekend there is an audition that I have been planning on going to.
SVCT is auditioning for Cabaret.
At my age, I no longer want to go from one show right into another.
On the other hand, at my age, there are only so many roles that I am right for.
So opportunities are dwindling.
And my ability to do shows is dwindling.
I know that by the time Cabaret starts rehearsals, my fat old lady ass will be dragging.
But I love the show and the role I’m considering auditioning for (Fraulein Schneider).
But I’ve already done this show and role.
So why take the chance of ruining the memory of a wonderful production?
It is with a group that I have never worked with before.
And any show is just a shit ton of work.
But I already know the music and the lines.
But any show is just a shit ton of work – and worry.
I’ll probably have rehearsal on the audition days and call back day.
The good news is auditions are not scheduled – so I can leave it to the last minute.
The bad news is auditions are not scheduled – so I will probably waste a lot of time sitting around.
Fuck.
I hate being a grown up and having to make decisions.
You were absolutely lovely in this role, my friend. My vote is…audition:)
