THIS FAT OLD LADY’S TBT – PUSSYCAT, PUSSYCAT, I LOVE YOU

I couldn’t think of anything much to write about today, so I am going to share one of my favorite memories from living in Los Angeles.

Before the advent of our current days of pornographic abundancy, Los Angeles was sprinkled with Pussycat (movie) Theaters.

The most well known one was on Hollywood Boulevard, which only showed Deep Throat and The Devil in Miss Jones.

Clearly dedicated to the classics.

I can’t recall which street I was walking on – but I know it wasn’t Hollywood Boulevard – my memory says Melrose, but I can’t determine if there ever was a Pussycat Theater on Melrose, and I can’t imagine it was Santa Monica – which was where most of the sex workers hung out (male and female, depending on which end of Santa Monica you were on); maybe the one on Sunset – I swear, like 7-11 today, Pussycat Theaters were on every street in LA!

Anyhow, I was walking along and I see a huge chartered bus pull up and park on the street.

Pouring out of this bus comes a horde of what appeared to be middle-aged Japanese businessmen – all in neat business suits and ties.

They all stood at the intersection, and when the light changed, they all crossed – and lined up at the Pussycat Theater box office!

It was an amazing sight.

It was the kind of thing you would only see in Los Angeles.

It is one of the reasons why I miss LA and recommend living there for at least a few years to everyone.

  1. VERY funny!

Actually, it may well have been the Pussycat on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood. Went to school with a gal who grew up around the corner from that one.

Those chartered tours went on for YEARS: the guys got the porno tour and the wives got shuttled onto other
buses headed for Rodeo Drive or – later on – South Coast Plaza Shopping Center in Orange County. For the
ladies, the tour company would book an extra bus to bring back all the purchases: always too much to fit the
passengers AND the packages after the shopping excursion.

Love the photos on your Friday post and are you ever right: after a certain age, the fat helps to hold up all the bits that tend to sag & flutter on thinner bodies.
