An article I recently read deals with what happens when a fat “influencer” loses weight and how the fat community deals with this.
The answer is –
If you were fat and used to be all over the internet talking about what a hot and fierce fatty you are and then you lose weight and you are all over the internet talking about how fabulous your life is now that you are not a fatty, well – the fat community is going to think you’re pants are either on fire now or they used to be on fire.
Either way, nobody likes the smell of your scorched panties.
If you were fat and used to be all over the internet talking about what a hot and fierce fatty you are and then you lose weight, and you are honest about the changes you are experiencing and are still supportive of the fat community, well – okay.
That’s the thing.
Fat people don’t really care about whether you are gaining or losing weight.
We are (generally) about body autonomy.
However, what we DO NOT want to hear about is dieting, WLS (weight loss surgery), and/or your weight loss journey.
Many fat people have been bullied by “friends”, family and healthcare professionals on the subjects of dieting and WLS and our (presumed) ill health.
The fat community has created a few “safe places” where those topics are banned.
There are a gazillion (at last count) places where you are welcome, nay, encouraged, to talk about your dieting, WLS, and/or weight loss journey.
Please, avail yourself of one of those places when you are in the need of discussing those topics.
It isn’t that the fat community suddenly hates you; it’s that the fat community wants you to respect the few limitations placed in order to maintain a safe place for fat people who have been traumatized by living in a fat-hating world.
Is that so much to ask?
If so, FUCK YOU; and personally, I don’t care to hear what you have to say about anything if that is an example of your lack of empathy and compassion.
