Michigan is in the news! And it’s good news – sort of. Michigan is the only state in the United States that has head lice that have not mutated and become resistant to over-the-counter treatments!
Um. Whoo-hoo?
Seems that head lice in a lot of states have become resistant to pyrethroids, the active ingredient in most over-the-counter head lice treatments. And so far, Michigan is only state where the head lice population is still largely treatable with common over the counter treatments.
I don’t know how it is now. But when I was growing up, I didn’t even know about head lice. It was not a common problem in our little corner of Michigan. In fact, until I moved to California, I had no idea that kids getting head lice in school could be a common problem.
Ewww.
So let’s hear it for my home state and our traditional (non-mutated) head lice!
Oh, and you can thank me for choosing the lovely graphic of the sand dunes on Lake Michigan. I googled images of head lice and OMG, my skin still itches. Do yourself a favor and NEVER google images of head lice; what has been seen cannot be unseen.
