THIS FAT OLD LADY’S ALL ABOUT ME MONDAY – WHO KNEW

Okay, I know it’s Tuesday, but I’m really having a time getting motivated to write at all.  This is me making an effort.

Yesterday (Monday), we were invited to join my sister Karon, her husband, and her husband’s mother for lunch at the Riverside (a nearby café).

You betcha, I was in.

My dear husband was working, so he opted out.

So it’s about 12:20, and off I go to the Riverside.

Get there.

The parking lot is almost completely empty.

Hmmmmm.

The Riverside is almost always packed.

Hmmmmm.

I notice a piece of paper on the door.  My sister and her gang arrive and we go to investigate.

They are closed for “repairs and maintenance”.

Well, fuck.

Okay – we’re going to the Sports Pub.

We go.  We arrive.

Empty parking lot.

Hmmmmm.

This time no sign, but the place is locked up tighter than a librarian’s butthole when she needs to fart (and yes, thank you, I did just make that up.  I’m so proud).

Now, we decide to go to our favorite breakfast place – Nori’s.

Nori’s, which is in Saginaw, is open and we have a lovely lunch.

Lesson learned – apparently, the day after the Superbowl is a municipal holiday in the City of Freeland, Michigan.

Have I got a town for you!

  1. …and welcome to FlyOverCountry!
Sometimes all the awful things people say about California prove to be true, that the other 49
see things SO differently than we do. So – in those other 49, Super Bowl Day is in fact a major holiday & requires a day-after for recovery. Next year, plan that lunch for Tuesday – it’ll
be just as much fun & you’ll feel like a native.

  2. I found that in California Super Bowl Sunday was a very big deal – for parties! People gathered for good food and company and pretty much ignored the game. And you’re assuming that I’ll remember this lesson for an entire year!
