One of my “words to live by” phrases (besides “Don’t tie your cows to the bleachers”) is:
I don’t like everybody, so why would I think everybody should like me?
I don’t and I don’t.
This is why I’m okay when certain people do not seem drawn to the fucking ray of sunshine and effervescence that is moi.
I am sure I am an acquired taste, as it were – and I’ve had lots (and lots) of years to get used to my own piquant taste.
So if you like me, great. If you don’t like me, great. If I like you, great. If I don’t like you, great.
You do you and I’ll do me.
Let’s just try to get along and be civil when circumstances cause our paths to cross.

And here’s a thought to add to your “I don’t like everybody…” from the incredible Oscar Levant:
“Every time I look at you I get a fierce desire to be lonesome”. Do with it what you will!
(And good thoughts to all your cousins & their new knees!)
Oscar Levant was a treasure.
