I find the fat paintings of Geeske Hartine to be charming and lovely and full of whimsy. They are the kinds of paintings that I want to just sit and ponder for a while. Part of my pondering is wondering what the artist was thinking or wanted to convey; and part is just absorbing the painting itself.
There is not a lot of information online about Ms. Harting. I found a reference to a website (geeskeharting.nl), but when you go there it says “Coming Soon”, which I believe usually means “I set this up and then promptly gave up on it.”
I think the little blurb I found describes Ms. Hartin’s work very well:
Geeske Harting graduated in the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, 1990. Harting has a poetic realistic style, telling stories of everyday life with a surrealistic perspective. Geeske Harting’s main medium is painting. She has a poetic realistic style, telling stories of everyday life with a surrealistic perspective.
