I used to love making a batch of soup (or chili).
Now, I almost never make soup.
I don’t even want to look at soup recipes.
Well, one problem is most soup recipes make a fucking gallon of soup.
Yes, I like soup – but I don’t want to be eating it for a month.
Plus, that leftover soup takes up way too much room in my refrigerator.
Maybe if I had a separate freezer, instead of just the little one atop my refrigerator, I’d feel differently.
But I don’t, so I don’t.
Also, it’s so easy to just buy a couple of cans of soup.
That way, my husband and I can eat the different kinds of soup we each like.
It stores easily.
Each can is one serving, so no leftovers.
Lots of choices.
It just takes a few minutes to heat.
So I’m not anti-soup eating, just anti-soup making.
Another problem with homemade soup and chili – it always tastes better the next day.
But I don’t want to eat it again the very next day.
And I have no place to store it while it “matures”.
Maybe I’ll feel different when we retire to Michigan.
Maybe then, during those snowy winter days, I’ll feel like having homemade leftover soup for lunch.
But then I’ll still be my fat old lady lazy ass self.
So probably not.
Too bad too, because I have some yummy soup and chili recipes.
