There is an ad for Hershey chocolate that is supposed to be heartwarming.
It is about 94 year old Bob Williams of Long Grove, Illinois.
Bob gives Hershey chocolate bars to people; and has been doing so for more than ten (10) years.
He buys a box of Hershey’s chocolate bars every Saturday.
He has a freezer full of Hershey’s chocolate bars.
In real life, Bob hands out the chocolate to everyone he meets.
In the ad, however, they make it look like Bob only hands out candy to children.
Yikes.
The ad is literally celebrating children taking candy from a “stranger”.
(Long Grove has a population of slightly more than 8,000, far to large for everyone to know everyone.)
Holy crap.
I am sure that Bob Williams is a sweet old man who just likes to make people happy.
But the ad still makes my skin crawl.
We watch ads with the sound off, which adds a dark sense of hilarity to this particular ad.
Hershey, Hershey, Hershey.
You couldn’t find a way to celebrate this guy without making him look creepy AF?
Please, just add some adults to this ad.
Because the image of an old man searching out children and giving them candy is just not the image a candy company should extoll.
WTF Hershey?

Boobs!
