You know those ads that show up on your timeline on FaceBook?
Well, maybe it’s just me – but every now and then (like the beginning of a New Year), I get bombarded with diet ads.
Things that make me go grrrrrr.
As you should be aware by now – diets DO NOT work.
The science is long in.
There is no known way for most fat people to achieve significant long term weight loss.
And many people who diet will end up gaining more weight than they lost.
Plus possibly damaging their bodies and psyche along the way.
Diets are not a harmless past time.
They screw up your body and they fuck with your mind.
Diets tell you that YOU failed.
No. Diets don’t work. It is not your fault when a diet doesn’t work
BECAUSE DIETS DON’T WORK.
Having said all of that … back to those diet ads on FaceBook.
My husband and I have a policy when those ads pop up.
We report the ad as a scam.
Because that is what they are.
And we will keep reporting those ads until FaceBook stops pushing diets on its members.
(Hope springs eternal.)
Diet ads are not harmless.
They can be triggering to people with eating disorders.
They can be triggering to people who are struggling with body image issues.
They lie to people – implying (or saying outright) that thin = healthy.
There are plenty of thin people with health issues.
They lie to people – implying (or saying outright) that your value as a human being is tied intrinsically to a number on a scale!
How fucked up is that?
So, if you get those ads – please do not scroll by.
Report those fuckers.
They are lying to you and attempting to perpetrate fraud.
Don’t let them get away with it.
