No, I am not being sponsored by Duolingo (or anyone, for that matter, just fat old me here).
Duolingo is FREE.
FREE, FREE, FREE!
It is a wonderful website where you can learn other languages.
For free.
I’m learning Spanish.
Ever since moving to California, I have wanted to learn Spanish.
Growing up in Michigan, in high school I took 2 years of French, which seemed practical with Quebec not very far away.
In college I took 2 semesters of German.
I have no excuse for studying German, except French was full up and I wanted to get the language requirements out of the way.
Duolingo lets you study 33 different languages – including Arabic, Japanese, Navaho, Swahili, Welsh, and now Klingon.
You can go at your own speed, and they have various companion programs to help – like podcasts, and flash cards.
It’s also a great way for people of my (advanced) age to keep those old brain cells sparking.
I don’t envision me setting the world on fire with my newly acquired language skills, but I’m having a lot of fun embarrassing myself when I try to inject some Spanish into a conversation with someone who is fluent.
Me encanta Duolingo.
(I think/hope that’s right.)
