At least, our front yard is.
Remember last year, which a good proportion of was spent dealing with the township putting in a storm drainage system (to help the people who live in the back corner of our neighborhood who were having a lot of flooding issues)? We lost 3 huge oak trees out front? Our internet, power, gas, and water all got cut (despite a bazillion little flags supposedly marking where not to dig) periodically?
Well now, we have a ditch in our front yard, where the ground has collapsed in, right along the line of where the work was done.
This started last fall, but then there was snow; and then there was more snow, and lots of snow (we had a real Michigan winter this year, like when I was a kid). So there was no point asking the township to come fix it, when you couldn’t see it.
So the snow has melted, and appears to be staying gone. I called the township and tracked down the right person to talk to – Scott, and then had the fun of explaining to Scott why I had a problem with a ditch in our front yard when no ditch previously existed.
Scott just couldn’t understand. ????
I told him there was a subsidence. That there was a depression. That there was a (fucking) ditch. Finally, he said, “Oh, you mean the ground settled?” I went with it. Sure, the ground (fucking) settled, and created a (fucking) ditch in our front yard.
Not only do we have a ditch, it is a useless ditch. We had some major thunderstorms come through last night, and it’s raining steadily this morning. We have lake White Beech forming in our front yard – but that fucking ditch is empty!
Anyhow, I am proud to say that I stayed calm and pleasant (I know, hard to believe, but it’s good to know my therapy is working at some level) throughout my dealings with Scott, and someone is supposed to come out to take a look. I can’t believe I’m the only person to complain, because if you look down our street, you can see the pre-ditch depressions in front of all the houses; it’s just ours is the worst. Figures.
