Sometimes I think the attorneys at my firm just send me stuff to keep me busy.

I mean they couldn’t be that stupid.

Could they?

I had an attorney send me an attachment of discovery requests and saying that another attorney had assigned her the task of responding and she was told that I had already created the response documents, but she couldn’t find them.

Okay.

This could happen.

A) The secretary may have neglected to send me the discovery request when it came in (most likely); or

B) The documents could have been misfiled in the system (not as likely, because this only happens when I receive something and the system file hasn’t been set up yet – and we were assured by the company who sold us this system, that this could never-ever happen – yeah, right, and my ass chews crackers too.)

Turns out neither A nor B apply.

Turns out the documents were right were they were supposed to be; and the attorney even had one of them open!

WTSF?

I sent her the one that was not open and informed her she already had the other one open, and they were right where they were supposed to be.

She responded that when she sent the e-mail, she didn’t realize that the name I used for the document was the name of the defendant and not the defendant’s dba (“dba” is “doing business as” and is used for a fictitious business statement name).

Uh-huh.

EXCEPT, the frigging discovery requests show the individual defendant’s name and dba.

Update!  Different attorney – the last three documents she has sent me to work on, she has left open on her computer.  Which means I cannot work on that document until it’s closed.

Each time, I have sent her an e-mail telling her to let me know when she is out of the document.

And I will admit, she gets out of the document pretty quickly and lets me know (some attorneys walk away from their desk and/or don’t check their e-mails and it’s the end of the fucking day and they’re wondering where their document is – and, trust me, I let them know (with all the patience I can muster) exactly where their document is – OPEN ON YOUR COMPUTER.

Anyhow, I just got another document from her.

Guess what?  I’ll bet you can.

Yup, it’s open.

WTF is she thinking?

Give me strength.

I know this all seems like petty bullshit.  Actually, I know it’s all petty bullshit; but I guess the pandemic and general state of the world is getting to me.

So beware.

I have officially lost my sunny disposition.
